Philly’s Phunniest Preliminary Results for Thursday, July 30th
There were two shows of competition this evening, which means double the comics advancing to the next round.
From the early show, H. Foley, David Ray and Jared Gillespie will be moving on to the semi-finals on Saturday, August 8th.
And from the late show, comics Doogie Horner, Aaron Hertzog and Vince Patterson will be going on to the next round.
There is no contest show tomorrow (Kevin Nealon instead), but it’ll all resume Saturday with another double-header.
Philly’s Phunniest Preliminary Results for Wednesday, July 29th
Oh, hello. Just wanted to pop in with the results of Day Two of the Philly’s Phunniest Contest. They are, in no particular order, Tom Achilles, Samita Pendse and Erin Mulville. They’ll be going on to the semi-finals on Saturday, August 8th.
Tomorrow promises not one but two shows of top competition throughout. It’s going to get brutal, folks. Check back here Thursday night.
The Sound of Young America announces guests for live Fringe show
As previously mentioned here, the hit public radio show/podcast The Sound of Young America is coming to this year’s Fringe Fest by way of the Philly Improv Theater and earlier today the lineup for the show was announced. It’s an exciting list of some of best talents that Philadelphia has to offer:
Charles Burns is a Philadelphia writer best known for his graphic novel Black Hole.
The Spinto Band are a Philadelphia indie rock group by way of Wilmington that play insanely catchy pop songs, most notably on their albums Nice and Nicely Done and Moonwink.
Robert Hicks, PhD, is the director of The Mutter Museum, which was founded over 150 years ago to educate future doctors about anatomy and human medical anomalies. It now holds such oddities as the preserved body of the “Soap Lady”, a plaster cast of the torso of world-famous Siamese Twins and a cancerous growth removed from President Grover Cleveland.
and there will be comedy from local Kent Haines who is the reigning Philly’s Phunniest Person and will be on the upcoming season of Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham.
It all happens at The Adrienne Theater Wednesday, September 16th. Tickets are on-sale now and will probably go fast. The next day at 10PM, the Monsters of Podcasting will take the stage. There is also a tour poster commemorating the shows.
Philly’s Phunniest Preliminary Results for Tuesday, July 28th
And so it begins. Dreams will be realized, and dreams will be crushed. A very energetic, sold out crowd last night voted along three comedians to the semi-finals and they are: Anton Shuford, Darryl Charles and Carl Boccuti.
I like talking about what the comedians talked about, because it makes no sense if you weren’t there. Anton got the crowd worked up by talking about a foul ball he caught at a baseball game, Darryl spent a lot of time on buying asparagus at the grocery store (I’m also a fan of the vegetable) and Carl used most of his time trying to decipher the language that his students use (he’s a teacher). So not typical topics you hear at a comedy show.
The contest continues tonight as more comedians will be voted on to the next round.
Helium’s Philly’s Phunniest Contest starts tonight!
Tonight begins the 2009 Philly’s Phunniest Contest at Helium (check out the show info to the right). Over the next two weeks of intense competition, 150 comics will take the stage for the grand prize of $1,000 and a good chance at additional stage time at future shows. Each comic will get four and a half to six minutes to do their best stuff and either two or three (depending on if they are any cancellations) comics advance every night based upon audience vote.
Last year, C vs. A was there almost every night with recaps and an interview with the eventual winner Kent Haines (who will be hosting this year) and you best believe we’ll be doing that again, so check back!
The lineup for each evening of the preliminary round is available here. So who do ya got?
