Kevin Allison launches RISK!, teaches at the Philly Improv Theater

Tuesday Oct 6, 2009 by Dave Walk

Things have been going well recently for Kevin Allison. The State complete series DVD was finally released and by all accounts his live storytelling show RISK! in New York City has been going well. And starting today, the rest of the world can experience the show with the RISK! podcast (iTunes).

The theme for the first episode is “Strange Sex” and includes stories from Ophira Eisenberg, Lucas Haslett, Peter Aguero, John Flynn, Marc Maron and Allison himself. The tag line for the show, “true tales boldly told,” is definitely in effect here. First off, these stories are so strange and awkward that they must be true. Also, it really does take a lot of guts to tell these embarrassing tales to complete strangers in the hopes that they will laugh. Overall, the podcast is very well produced with musical interludes similar to This American Life, although you probably couldn’t tell some of these stories on the radio.

This Saturday Allison will begin teaching a sketch comedy class through the Philly Improv Theater. There is some space still available for this 9-week class.

And after you listen to the RISK! podcast, listen to Allison on the C vs. A Podcast talking about The State, his one-man show and how he is ready to shed the characters and perform as himself.

I know John Flynn from UCB. He’s a fantastic storyteller and someone I keep meaning to get to do Bedtime Stories.
